Dr. Ramnath Nandakumar (Ram) was the Head of Energy at Hanson UK part of Heidelberg Cement responsible for managing a total spend of £220 million per annum. An energy trading expert with advanced trading and structuring skills, he was responsible for developing and implementing risk management strategies to minimise bottom line impact to the business from the highly volatile global energy markets. He introduced various advanced trading contracts for trading electricity, gas oil, natural gas, coal, bitumen and other alternative fuels in the UK market. At Hanson, he also led the renewable energy function. Ram is also a regular contributor to various UK government energy, carbon and climate change committees.
In his previous role as the Energy Manager at D S Smith Packaging, he was responsible for developing and implementing the corporate energy strategy for one of the largest paper manufacturing plants in Europe. While in this role Ram lead part of the team responsible for developing and promoting a 40MW electricity and 60 MW heat waste to energy CHP
Before joining D S Smith, Ram was the Chief Electricity Engineer at Teer Coatings LTD, a global leader in advanced PVD and Nano Technology Company. In this role he worked with many leading global organisations such as Toyota, GM, Canadian Mint, McLaren F1, Mercedes-Benz, Element 6 and various others.
Ram has a MBA from Cranfield University where he was awarded the Freeman Scholarship, and a PhD in Quantitative Feedback Theory from City University London.
